Andrea Severi
Pianist and organist
Andrea Severi was born in Montevarchi, he graduated at the Conservatory of Florence in piano with Lydia Rocchetti and in chamber music with Franco Rossi, and he studied Orchestral Conducting with Bruno Campanella, also attended courses of organ and harpsichord with Daniel Chorzempa and Clemente Terni.
He held various concerts as a soloist and in chamber ensembles in Italy and abroad for television and radio (RAI, Radio France Antenne 2 ) in addition to numerous recordings with the most prestigious labels (Sony, RCA Victor Ariola, Philips).
He collaborated with the most important institutions and festivals, including Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris, Téâtre des Champs-Elysée, Opéra National de Lyon, Monte Carlo Theatre, Opéra de Nancy et de Lorraine, Palau de les Arts Reina Sofìa in Valencia, Palau de la Musica Catalana in Barcellona, Verdi Festival in Parma, Rossini Festival in Pesaro, Accademia di Santa Cecilia in Rome, Accademia Chigiana in Siena, Ferrara Musica, Sagra Malatestiana of Rimini, Concentus Musicus, MiTo Festival, ORT, Milan Rai, Rome Opera House, Teatro Regio in Turin, Teatro Comunale di Bologna, Teatro Regio in Parma, Teatro Petruzzelli in Bari, Spoleto Festival, Teatro del Giglio in Lucca, Festival Mascagni in Livorno, Cantiere internazionale di Montepulciano, Festival Fermo.
He took part in opera productions at Bunka Kaikan and NHK in Tokyo and Yokohama in 1996, 2001, 2006, 2011, Shanghai in 1996 and in 1997 Beijing for Turandot in the Forbidden City, where he returned in 2017 for Falstaff production, in 2018 for La Sonnambula e Don Giovanni and in 2019 for La fanciulla del West. In 2000 he was invited to take part as pianist and organist in the European tour of the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra. In 2006 and in 2010 in the productions of Cosi fan tutte and Don Giovanni with the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra in the United States of America.
In 2019 he also collaborated with M. Zubin Metha on Verdi’s Otello production at the Baden Baden Easter Festival and at the Berlin Philharmonic with the Berliner Philarmoniker.
Since 1981 he is pianist at Teatro Comunale in Florence, where he worked with leading conductors including Mehta, Muti, C. Abbado, R. Abbado, Bartoletti, Bychkov, Chung, Gatti, Gavazzeni, Giulini, Kleiber, Luisi, Oren, Ozawa, Sawallisch, Sinopoli.
He has performed with the orchestra of the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino as a soloist (Hindemith piano Symphonies, Variation on a Theme by Paganini’ by Rachmaninov and piano concerto by Poulenc) as organist in Janáček’s Glagolitic Mass. He also performed Bach’s Passacaglia in the ballet “Le jeune homme et la mort”with the dancer Alessandra Ferri. With the choir of the Teatro Regio in Turin he has performed in Duruflé’s Requiem and with the Rome Opera chorus, Mass in C minor Schumann. With Harpsichord played the complete Brandenburg concertos and the Bach Suites.
In 2017 he has recorded with the Orchestra Regionale Toscana conducted by Daniele Rustioni a program of Italian pieces from the 900 including the concert for strings and piano op. 69 by Casella. In 2018 he also inaugurated the Organ Season of “the Wednesday of the Bank in Florence” which saw the participation of Tom Koopman among others.
He also taught at the Conservatory in Milan, Rovigo, Parma and Bologna. Since 2007 he teaches at the “Luigi Cherubini” in Florence.
